Hey guys!

I want to know how small the worlds smallest radio receiver is. Now,
by radio receiver I mean one that can receive and play some sort of
audio (either from a radio station or another transmitter). I realise
there may be smaller receivers out there, however, I am only after
infomation available to the public. Further to this, I am only after
infomation regaurding publically available receivers (although I would
be interested in any other info you dig up along the way).

I expect you may find a few different receivers along the way, I would
like links to/ info on these also.

The second part of the question: Are there any restrictions (legally)
on the size of such publically available receivers.

Many Thanks,

Mowgly

Does it have to be able to receive commercial broadcasting, or could
it be one that is designed to receive a single frequency for specialty
use (such as secret communications with the unit planted in the ear)?
Thanks.

Hi and thanks for your fast response! No, it doesn't have to be
commercial broadcasting. It could just be a single frequency a you
say for specialty purposes etc ...

P.S. Something planted in the ear would be ideal!

This looks like it might be it:

But I can't really address the second part of your question. I've
never heard of a law restricting the size of a radio receiver, but the
world's a big place, and it could well be that such a law
exists...somewhere.

Hi and thanks. Unfortunately I don't really think that is the
smallest out there but rather a marketing claim/title. I may be
wrong, after all it is hard when there is no indication of size apart
from the headphone in the background. However, I have seen quite a
few different sized receivers claiming to be the worlds smallest even
though they are sometimes the size of a matchbox!

Perhaps CIC (Completly in Canal) could be a useful search phase. Here
is a link I found to some CIC receivers, but they are still not yet
trully CIC as some of the receiver protrudes from the canal ...

Phonak products seem to be the smallest radios already. Are you
looking for those with no external antenna? That might be unlikely
since an antenna would be necessary for proper reception for such a
size of radio.

Yes I am after something with an internal antenna. I understand that
for a conventional radio you would need an external antenna but not in
the case where you use a repeater station.
