Kenny,
I'm a Web developer and didn't even know you could register .IT
domains! You can, but there is one small problem: You can't register
them on any U.S. registrar, because the bylaws of Italy's Registration
Authority and Naming Authority mandates that only citizens of the
European Union (EU) are allowed to own .IT domains.
However, after some Google digging, I found two serious options for
you to consider:
1: http://www.has.it
Free "redirection" service. If you've never heard of these, it's a
fairly simple concept. They own the domain "has.it" (and "does.it",
"says.it" among others) and offer people SUBdomains that redirect to
an actual Web site. This company claims to do it all for free, with
no pop-ups or advertisements. The only condition I saw was that you
"must contain a link back to http://www.has.it".
2: http://www.livetodot.com/noneu.php
While non-EU residents can't register top-level .IT domains, this
company claims to have an arrangement with another company that will
purchase a domain and permanently lease it to anyone in the world.
The service costs GBP150 (British pounds) for setup and the first
year's registration, and GBP50/year after that. Send an e-mail to
foreign@livetodot.com for more information.
