Question ID: 251974
Just installed professional version of Windows XP on a computer (clean
fresh install). When it finished installing, it went into a "constant
reboot" cycle. It boots up, has an error "virtual memory too low",
and then reboots. Safe mode, fiddling around in bios, etc., nothing
seems to have an effect. Any ideas?

p.s. It has two sticks of 512 mb memory (total 1 gb memory in it). 13
gb hard drive, brand new motherboard and case.

Can you tell us wich other software are installed in your PC?
Also in safe mode open the Control Panel and select System, then in
the Advanced tab, under the heading Startup and Recovery, click on the
Settings button, then under the System Failure heading, uncheck the
Automatically Restart box. Also disable the Memory Dump file creation
by selecting None in the System Failure section under the Write
Debugging Information drop down list.

Regards.

Hi:
No other software is installed in this PC. Note this was a
formatted hard drive, first time install of Windows XP, so impossible
to install any other software yet.
I can't enter safe mode. It brings up the virtual memory too low
and reboots. I tried entering safe mode 3 different ways (first
option, safe with network, and another option lower on the menu list).
 thx, Jon

In that case I suggest you to format again and reinstall Windows XP,
it appears to be a bad installation trouble.
