I have seen sellers selling brand new books on half.com and on similar
sites for a price much lower than what is quoted by amazon.com. How
does the book business work? Do these sellers buy straight from the
publisher? If yes then ,in general, what are the conditions of buying
books straight from a publisher. I would also appreciate if you could
point me to a web site or a book having the internal mechanics of how
book business operates.

Having worked in the book business, I am not aware of any website that
describes "the internal mechanics of how book business operates."

Many of the sellers on sites such as half.com are probably buying
books from a wholesaler such as Ingram. Would you like information on
wholesalers?

Yes, information about wholesalers would be useful too. Do try to tell
me both sides of the picture -- wholesalers dealing with publishers &
wholesalers dealing with retailers.
