Hi, ctuck-ga:

If your computer has a fairly recent version of MS Windows as its
operating system, then you can check the BIOS version and date from:

Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information

This small application will gather up lots of information about your
computer system and present it in a list of Item and Value pairs.

The top level "System Summary" should show you (about the ninth item
down) the BIOS Version/Date. E.g. my laptop has this entry:

BIOS Version/Date TOSHIBA V1.00, 1/26/2002

Check out the information on your system and let us know if this is
sufficient. If you have a different kind of operating system (DOS,
Linux, OS/2 ?), then let us know which one it is, and we'll go from
there.

regards, mathtalk-ga

Ctuck --

Though a BIOS can be updated, the best way to check a computer's age
is to check the date of the BIOS release. As for actual hours of
usage -- that's impossible to measure.

Also note that it is possible for different parts of the computer to
be different ages. The CPU of the computer I'm using now is about
three years old, the video card is about one year old, one of the
floppy drives is about seven years old, and so on.
