Calpurnius was the gens (clan) name of a famous Roman family (often surnamed Piso). Calpurnia would have been the name given to any daughter of the family. The Romans didn't normally give unique first names (praenomens) to their daughters, in contrast to their sons. If there were two or more daughters in any branch of the family, they would be named Calpurnia the Elder, Calpurnia the Younger, etc. to distinguish among them. The most famous Calpurnia was the wife of Caius Julius Caesar the Dictator. hlabadie-ga |
