Question ID: 252470
I heard this song a couple of times on the radio station up here in
Toronto (92.5 Jack FM) in the last week or so. It's got a sort of fast
tempo, wanna tap your toes, up-beat rock-a-billy type, I wanna say
Stray Cats style beat. Sort of along the lines of "Rock'n Roll High
School" from The Ramones, but not heavy with the electric guitars. My
brain keeps thinking it is a Stray Cats song, but I did a lyrics check
on a couple of their songs with no luck. I'm almost positive it's an
eighties tune. Early to mid 80's, if memory serves correct, which is
why I'm probably stuck with Stray Cats on my mind=) It's a short song,
probably 2 - 2.5 minutes long, tops. Here are the lyrics I was able to
make out and remember.

"...locomotion, here we go...I'm gonna have me some kind of fun, well
let's go..."

I hope I provided enough info as a jump off point. It's all I can
think of right now. Good luck and good hunting :)

Dear molsoncanadian,

The song you heard is an original early 1960s' rocker, "Some Kind'a
Fun", by Chris Montez (best known for 'Let's Dance'). "Some Kind'a
Fun" was recorded September 1962 and saw first release as a single
(Mongogram 507) the next month. On 8 December 1962, "Some Kind'a Fun"
peaked at #43 on the Billboard Charts.

"Some Kind'a Fun" is, for example, included in a fine CD with Chris
Montez' collected Monogram recordings, "Chris Montez: Let's Dance -
The Monogram Sides". I own the CD myself and I can recommend it. It is
available from Amazon.com for $17.98:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000009GY/qid%3D1062764665/102-9012175-1968947

Source: I myself. I am a collector of classic rock'n'roll and
recognized the lyrics the moment I read them.

Additional source: The booklet of the CD "Chris Montez: Let's Dance -
The Monogram Sides" (ACE CDCH369).

Hope this answers your question!

Hi Scriptor. Thanks for the quick answer. You nailed the song but not
the artist. Nevertheless, with song title in hand, you definitely
pointed me in the right direction. The song I heard was a remake, not
the original, thanks for the amazon link it helped me know for sure it
was the right song when I played their sample. The remake I heard was
from Teenage Head (alot faster than the original:). Again though,
thanks for your answer, it put me on the right track.

Any chance that it could be "Big Fun," by Scatterbrain?

I know this could not be it but... had to post it...it was bothering me..lol

Everybody's doin' a brand new dance now
(Come on, baby, do the locomotion)
I know you'll get to like it
If you give it a chance now
(Come on, baby, do the locomotion)
My little baby sister can do it with ease
It's easier than learning your a b c's
So come on, come on,
Do the locomotion with me

You gotta swing your hips now
Come on, baby, jump up, jump back
Well I think you got the knack…ohhhh

Now that you can do it
Let's make a chain now
(Come on, baby, do the locomotion)
Chug-a chug-a motion like a railway train now
(Come on, baby, do the locomotion)
Do it nice and easy, now don't lose control
A little bit of rhythm and a lot of soul
So come on, come on,
Do the locomotion with me

The Locomotion
Come on, come on, the locomotion
Come on, come on, the locomotion
Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on

Move around the floor in a locomotion
(Come on, baby, do the locomotion)
Do it holding hands if you got the notion
(Come on, baby, do the locomotion)
There's never been a dance that's so easy to do
It even makes you happy
When you're feeling blue
So come on, come on
Do the locomotion with me

You gotta swing your hips now
Come on, baby, jump up, jump back
Well I think you got the knack…ohhhh

Do the loc, do the loc, do the loco-locomotion
(Come on baby, do the locomotion)
Do the loc, do the loc, do the loco-locomotion
(Come on, baby, do the locomotion)

Do it nice and easy now don't lose control
A little bit of rhythm and a lot of soul
So come on, come on,
Do the locomotion
Come on, come on,
Do the locomotion
Come on, come on,
Do the locomotion with me
