I was working on my landscaping today, and I saw a couple of these
guys in my garden. They're about an inch long. Can you tell me what
they are??

The white spots are faux "eyes" on its underbelly. I would have
thought that would make it easy for me to find on the Internet, but it
didn't. Note the little round spinaret below the "eyes", from which
the web silk emanates.

The spider is a baby-fuzz-textured soft orange-red and very elegant
looking. Its hind end is wide at the thoracic area and tapers to a
very soft, rounded point near the web-spinning thingy (please let me
know if I overwhelm you with my scholarly technical descriptions).

I've looked in a bunch of different spider photo databases and not
really found anything that looks right.

Using another Researcher's suggestion, I found this orb-weaver that
looks somewhat similar:

But that's the closest I've come.

Best Answer will provide a link to pic of spider with VERY similar
appearance.

Hi, Aceresearcher.
While I don't have an answer for you, I would suggest visiting "What's
That Bug?", http://www.whatsthatbug.com/ .
The folks who run the site can be overwhelmed at times, so you might
have to wait. On the other hand, they go to incredible lengths to
find authoritative answers to questions of this type. It's a labor of
love for them, so there's no fee.
Best wishes,
bizguy
