Question ID: 252501
How do I configure Norton Firewall 2003 (for win2k) so that it will
permit my legit earthlink.net and comcast.net Outlook email connection
to take place? Right now, Norton is treating the SMTP/POP3 attempted
connections to these two accounts as "intrusions" and it is blocking
the connections for 30 minutes at a shot!?!

Hi clayton1986-ga,

I am interested in answering your question, but I believe that, to answer
it well, your question will require more time and effort than the average
amount of time and effort associated with this price. Here is a link to
guidelines about pricing your question,

If you both raise your price and also post a clarification here, the
system will notify me and I will take another look at your question.

Why don't you just ask Norton? Also, there may be a "help" or "read
me" file with the answer to your question. Most software firewalls
have security settings that will allow certain functions such as
e-mail to work. This is true of the timing as well. Here is a
general overview of the product:

Firewall Norton Key Features
                     Norton Firewall Intrusion Detection automatically
blocks Internet attacks.
Norton Firewall Privacy Control now protects
confidential data in email, Microsoft Office attachments, Web sites,
                   and instant messages.
Security Monitor provides a simple control window
and assures you that Internet traffic is actively being filtered.

Alert Assistant provides detailed information to
help you choose the best course of action.
Visual Tracking displays the source of an attack
on a world map.
Ad blocking keeps banner ads and pop-up and
pop-under windows off your screen for faster Web browsing.
One Button Disconnect lets you stop or resume all
Internet traffic with a single click.
Powerful firewall technology controls inbound and
outbound connections between your PC and the Internet.
                     Automatically determines which programs can
safely connect to the Internet.
                     LiveUpdate automatically downloads security
updates over the Internet.*
Network Notification lets you know when your PC
joins a network.
Automatic integration with Norton AntiVirus (sold
separately) offers comprehensive protection against Internet
                   threats.

Symantec, the company that distributes your firewall, has an on-line
knowledge base. I recommend that you go there.
