Question ID: 253056
I have results from an anhydrous calcium chloride vapor emission test
of a residential home concrete slab foundation. They are 7.65, 6.35,
9.84, and 8.86 lbs. with pH of 7 and 8. Is there a chart or list of
definitions of what these results mean? I need very specific and
detailed answers/opinions

Hello 11boomer-ga,

I can explain what the vapor emission test is, and what the results
mean...up to a point.

The numbers you got are fairly high for a typical conrete flooring
BUT...they can only be meaningfully interpreted in the context of the
specifications provided for the particular flooring in use.

In short, with vapor emissions ranging from about 6 pounds to almost
10 pounds, you definitely would not want a floor covering that
specified an upper limit of 3 pounds (an amount which many floor
coverings do, in fact specify).

However, there may well be a floor covering in place (or that could be
put in place) that could accomodate values like these.

To repeat, I can explain the test itself, and what the results are
about (both the pounds and the pH results), but I can't answer the
question: "Is this a good or a bad thing?". That can only be done
with a site-specific evaluation by a professional based on the type of
materials and the environmental conditions in place at the home in
question.

Please let me know if you would like me to answer your question. If
so, feel free to also let me know if there is any particular
information you would like covered that I haven't yet mentioned.

I'm familar with the test and how the results are derived, but I have
a home buyer that wants it in writing what the results mean. I think
I should take your advice and get an evaluation. Thanks, Jim

Hello Jim,

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds as if you no longer want
an answer to your question (at least not from Google Answers).

If that's the case, I suggest cancelling your question to avoid any
potential confusion. And if it's NOT the case, please let me know
what you'd like from us at this point.

Good luck.
