I recently started having a problem with double-click text
highlighting. For a word such as:
abcd1234
When I double click on this word, it would normally highlight the
whole word. Now when I double click, it will only highlight abcd if I
double click on the letters. If I double click where the numbers are,
it will only highlight the numbers.

If I double click on an email address such as asdas@fdsfs.com, it will
only highlight a portion of the email address depending on where I
click.

On any other computer, double clicking would highlight an entire word.
I am not sure what caused this problem to start happening. This
problem started 2 weeks ago and has not fixed itself.

Hi barryuf-ga,

It might be helpful to know what operating system you use, and if the
problem happens in all applications, or a select group. Thanks in
advance.

Hi barryuf,

I've been trying to replicate your problem here in Internet Explorer
and in Word. When I double click on your abcd1234, it highlights the
whole thing.

But, when I double click on the email address, it only highlights
before or after the @, depending on which side I click. That seems to
be the norm.

So, you are certain that when you have a letter-number combination
with no hyphens or breaks, you can only select one or the other with a
double click?

As slawek pointed out, it would be useful to know what OS you have and
what programs this is affecting. It might also be helpful if you could
think back to which program you were using when it first began to
happen. Maybe there is a setting there you inadvertently changed,
which now affects other related programs. (I'm thinking of Excel for
example, where a setting might affect all MS Office programs).

The more info you can give us, the better chance there is that we can
help.

Thanks - K~

Hi, just a note to say that when I click on either the word (abcd1234)
or email address (asdas@fdsfs.com,) it highlights the whole thing
(including the comma). It doesn't matter where I click, I never get a
partial highlight. If I click on the space before the email address,
it highlights "as asdas@fdsfs.com,". hummer

Hi Barryuf,

Aside from what has been asked by my colleagues, did you change the
mouse double-click speed settings in Control Panel? Try setting the
speed to medium or adjust the speed if necessary.

As others have mentioned, it's important for you to tell us what
application this problem is occurring in - or if it's every app.
Microsoft Office has specific overrides for this behavior under
Tools->Options->Edit. Other programs have similar settings.
