I have noticed that several Researchers have looked for this song,
without success. Personally, I have not seen any references either to
this song or to singers named Mannix and Rose.

Do you have any more information about the singers or the song that
might help us in our research? For example, can you tell us any
lyrics, the time or place you heard the song, or the first names of
Mannix and Rose?

My husband said he heard the song he thinks around 1940's to 1950's.
Country music shows and usually on Sat. night. One was from a La.
radio station and the other from W. Virginia radio station. He
doesn't think it was on the Grand Ole Opera. Rose was the one that had
the 3 brothers that would keep her safe and watch over her. Her
brothers were the musical group, but he doesn't know their names.
Mannix was the last name of the three brothers and Rose.
The 3 brothers would watch over her to keep her safe etc. He doesn't
remember any other words to the song.
Thanks for your help. Jean

Greetings Jean1:

Your clarification helped a great deal and I believe you are seeking
The Maddox Brothers and Rose, a hillbilly/rockabilly band. While I
was unable to locate the specific lyrics you seek, I hope you will
accept the research below as an answer that includes where to purchase
various albums by them. Your question is fairly priced yet I do not
have the time to invest to listen to all the songs online to see if
that lyric line is present. I was unable to locate lyrics from them
mentioning the line you gave as an example.

To read about the group, please see "The Maddox Brothers and Rose"

I also used the search term

"rose maddox" "watch over me"

but located nothing there either. She may have once covered the song
"Someone To Watch Over Me" on live radio and mentioned her 3 brothers
during the song but I found no evidence of that either.

I just thought to search the US Copyright Office for songs copyrighted
by Rose. I found 71 records. To see them, go to
http://www.copyright.gov/records/cohm.html and click on Author, then
enter

Maddox, Rose

into the search box. It will take you to the records and then you may
click to view the entire list. One of the titles might ring a bell if
she, indeed, wrote the song you're seeking.

I just saw Markj's entry and you may also see that from the Music
Stack link I provided above. The link to directly buy that song is
http://www.musicstack.com/item.cgi?item=5015979 The Music Stack is
for rare and out-of-print recordings. However, this did not mention
three brothers, but four.

Here is a link to a page on the Barnes & Noble website that includes
an audio clip of the song you must be interested in. It is called
"I've Got Four Big Brothers (To Look After Me)":
Barnes & Noble: The Most Colorful Hillbilly Band in America

Just scroll down to the 17th cut on "Disc 2" and click on the link. If
you have "Real Player" installed on your computer, you can play the
30-second clip. If you don't have Real Player, you can download the
free version of it from this site:

Just be sure and click on the lower-right link where it says "Download
the Free RealOne Player."
