I need to know the exact amounts of public funding for the 28 Major
League Baseball stadiums currently used in the United States. The
public funding amounts are for the years 1990 through 1999 and should
only include public funding for new stadium construction and
renovations during this 10-year time period. Please list and use
reliable sources only.

As loathe as I am to recommend a site put together by these blowhards,
you may want to consult the National Taxpayers Union Foundation. They
have a skimpy-on-hard-data report at
http://www.ntu.org/taxpayer_issues/ntuf_policy_papers/pp_ntuf_133c.php3,
but if you call them I'm sure they could put you in touch with a
researcher who has the facts. Cheers mate!

I might also consult this report from the Canadian government about US
subsidies to MLB stadiums -- However it also lacks a full laundry list
of funding details..

The National Sports Law Institute of Marquette University Law School
published a Sports Facility Report with statistical information on MLB
facilities, with information on public funding for 1990 - 2001:

Good luck!

You should understand that the stadiums used in MLB vary in the amount
of public financing used in their construction. I believe the
construction of Cleveland's Municipal Stadium (later Cleveland
Stadium) in the early 1930s was the first, or one of the first,
stadiums to be built with tax money. Stadiums built before that, such
as Fenway Park, were likely built by team owners or other private
businesses with little or no public-sector involvement. Also, not all
stadiums have been built or renovated in the past 12 years. For
example, the Metrodome in Minneapolis was built in the early `80s, and
Toronto's SkyDome in the late `80s.

The Brookings Institution came out with a study of public funding for
stadiums in 1997. Information on that book is available at
(http://www.brook.edu/dybdocroot/press/books/sports.htm). Also see the
site Ballparks by Munsey & Suppes at (www.ballparks.com).
