FOREIGN LANGUAGE TERMS for DAYS, MONTHS... I need to know the days of
the week, and the months of the year, in as many languages as possible
(near-to-English ones first, then outward), in our alphabet (not
Arabic, Cyrillic, Asian scripts).
I could grrrrind through available dictionaries and may have to yet,
but is there a collected compact resource existing?

There are several sites on the internet that will give you large lists
of translations for days of the week and months of the year. I didn't
count, but there looked to be 25-35 or more languages listed, with
several alphabets being used.

Thing is, though, you still have a bit of manual work to do, as you
would have to look up each day, and each month, individually. But you
have to admit, looking up just 7 days and 12 months at a single site
is a heck of a lot better than having to find a whole mess of
different sites with calendars for each language.

Let me know if this would suit as an answer to your question.

Thanks.

Hello infovoyeur!

(Great handle, by the way.) What a fun project! You are
correct--grinding through individual foreign language dictionaries for
each word would be a drag. Thankfully, there is a resource that will
cut down your workload significantly. My colleague, pafalafa-ga, has
pointed out this amazing resource (that's quite fun to play with, I
might add!) and I hope that it helps you out a great deal.

It is www.logos.net or more specifically,
http://www.logosdictionary.com/. You input the word that you want to
translate and it gives you results in many, MANY languages all at
once!! I did a search on “thank you” and it came back with 72 results,
most of which use the Latin alphabet. So, you can get translations
into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Afrikaans, and
many, many more! (Gosh, I sound like an infomercial!)

I can fill you in on a pretty long list of individual language
translators, but that doesn’t seem to be something that would help
you. This seems to be closer to the “collected compact resource” you
mentioned. The site was having some problems earlier today, but when
it’s up and running, it is a great tool!

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance and please
feel free to ask for further clarification. Yours sounds like an
interesting project (whatever you might be doing with the information)
and I’d be happy to help you. I think foreign languages are
fascinating! Best of luck to you!

Thank you . . . Obrigada . . . Gracias . . . Arigato . . . Merci . . .
Grazie . . .Tak . . .
