Hi Brenn,

Where are you located? Have you inquired to the Philippine Free Press
regarding photos made by Mr. Buenaluz?

Have not contacted the publisher. Seems like the publication, being a
critic of the administration at that time, was closed by President
Marcos during the marshal law regime. I do not know if the
publication is still in circulation. I am here in California, USA. I
do not know if the Library of Congress did subscribed to this
publication. If it did, it surely would have these pictures in its
archieves. The bigger university libraries would probably have this
pictures. The pictures (most of them ) occupies the centerfold of the
magazine. Mostly pictures of models showing dress style during that
period of time.

Hi Brenn,

I have contacted the Philippine Free Press and found out that it had
been closed from 1971 to 1986 by the Marcos administration.
Afterwards, the magazine is back in circulation since the People Power
Revolution in 1986.

With regards to your question, the person I talked to cannot confirm
if they had Mr. Brendo Buenaluz as photographer back in the 70's or
80's. Furthermore, she told me that there are no web accessible copies
of the Philippine Free Press. However, she informed me that she can
allow you to search their archive, provided you ask their business
office first for permission regarding this matter. She also hinted
that the magazine is also circulated in selected parts of the world,
including the United States.

Given these, if you are sure that Mr. Buenaluz was a photographer of
the Philippine Free Press and that you are willing to see their
archive, if ever, here in the Philippines, I can relay to you the
following info:

1) Contact info of the President and General Manager of the Philippine
Free Press where you can ask for permission to research their archive
and/or inquire about the magazine;

2) Telephone number of their Circulations Department where you can
inquire for additional info;

3) Additional sources in the Philippines where you can find old copies
of the said magazine.

Please tell me if you want to accept the following as an answer and
I'll post the details as soon as possible. Thank you.

Regards,
Feilong

What I have in mind is for you to get hold of these pictures - maybe
earlier than 1970 - before the marshal law - post them so I could see
them and that would answer the question - Mr Buenaluz was a
photographer of the said publication - and a contributor - but was
never in their payroll. Started with visit of the Pope in the
Philippines - around the the 60's. I am not sure whether his
photographs of the Papal visit got published, but thereafter, many of
this photographs were included in their publications. I would like to
see these pictures. Please post them and that would answer my question
(preferably with dates when they were published). He used either a
Rolleiflex camera(owned the publication) or a Linhoff camera owned by
the photographer.

Regarding your request to post images of your desired photos on the
Internet, I'm sorry to say that I can't do that. Only the Philippine
Free Press have the right to post their materials on the Internet.
They won't give me exclusive permission to post the pictures on the
Internet. If only the pictures are already posted on the Internet, I
would have given you the links. As the lady (a senior editor) told me,
there are no web accessible copies of the magazine.

The Philippine Free Press is sort of an elite organization. You can't
even find their current address on the Internet. I was only able to
contact them via my friends in the print media. Other than the info I
can give you, I can be of no further assistance. I hope you
understand.

If you could get in touch with Esmeraldo Z Izon, barrow the negatives,
etc and
e mail it to me - with notation on when they were published with
caption - that would solve the problem. I will give you my e mail
address - if this is OK.
