Question ID: 254026
I have a copy of my GGGrandfather's immigration found at
www.dessertfamily.com. He left from port of Harvre and arrived New Orleans
4/15/1842. Can anyone tell me what town he left in France? (I think
that it is Jarville La Malgrange, but need proof). Can anyone tell
me, or point me in the right direction?

Was his date of birth 30 DEC 1822?

I have all that information, I even have a copy of the birth listing
in Jarville. see: http://www.dessertfamily.com/joseph%20e%20dezert.asp
on my web site. My problem, I can not figure out where to get the
emmigration records proving that Joseph E. Dezert is the same one that
immigrated and naturalized from my the first page of my website.

Do you know how to find the french records of emmigration. I have the
naturalization records, but can't find the ship that he came in on.

Hope you can help.

There is a Census record for a Joseph Dezert in 1860
http://my.ohio.voyager.net/~damontz/census/sjb1860i.htm

I don't think this is him (my Joseph E. Dezert, but who knows)

I cannot vouch for the census record of course, but the record for
JOSEPH DEZERT shown here most defintely corresponds with ALL the known
infromation including dates, places, spouse's name and parents name.

Thus I do believe that this is indeed the same person you are speaking
of and perhaps the reason so little is known about him up to this
point is due to the name change from DEZERT to DESSERT at some point
after his US arrival.

Dear buffyhunt-ga;

Please let me know if you already know this information or if it
provides any useful data that might be considered an answer to your
question. I realize that some of this work may be yours but of course
I have no way of knowing unless I ask:

According to the records archive of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints, who maintains one of the largest genealogical
archives in the world, JOSEPH E. DEZERT (as your surname was spelled
back then) was most likely born 30 Dec 1822 in Jarville-La-Malgrange,
Meurthe-Et-Moselle, France to (Father) Francois Dezert and (Mother)
Francoise Virriet. He eventually married Agatha Sophia Rioth and is
believed to have died in Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio. He was buried
somewhere in Brown County, Illinois. I should mention though that some
records do reflect he was born in the year 1823 in Alsace, France but
these are probably estimates since there is no accompanying month and
day with those records.

I saw some of the work that I believe posted on GENCIRCLES and
ROOTSWEB and noted that you did not have some of this information. I
believe that this new information I have provided to you can help you
contact others who are also working this portion of your family and
who have valuable information to share and compare.

Please let me know if this provides any useful data and serves as an
answer to your question. If so, I’d be happy to close the question for
you.
