Question ID: 254198
I tried to download Netscape7 browser. I got all the way to the
screen that said I had successfully downloaded all the files and I
should wait until the browser closed. It didn't close. After a while
I got a screen saying that because my browser hadn't closed I should
close it myself and then go somewhere -- control panel maybe -- and do
something. I didn't write down what it was telling me. I'm now at a
loss. There's no Netscape7 browser on my desktop.

Is there a simple way I can get the Netscape7 browser to work? Or
should I go through the installation process again?

Hi soctiestudent,

Downloading Netscape is a two-stage process. First comes the
"installer" and second the program.

Is there a "NSSetup" on your desktop or in your Program Files? If not,
go to Start/Find/Files or Folders and type "NSSetup" to find it. Once
found, click on it and you will begin downloading Netscape 7.02.

If you have already done that step successfully, go to
Start/Find/Files or Folders and type in "Netscape 7.02". Look for the
program file (.exe) and click on it. You can also look in your Program
Files folder.

Please let me know if either of those helped or not.

Thanks, hummer

Thanks, I think that does it. I had to install the Netscape7 files
again, using a downloaded installer. By using the Windows Search
command I discovered that I had three downloaded installers, each in a
different directory. Now my desktop displays not only Netscape 7.2
but also Winamp, Instant Messenger, Netscape email and newsgroups, and
Radio@Net...plus. I managed to delete the AOL ikon. I'm inclined to
delete Instant Messenger as well because I don't see myself using it.
I can't figure out what Winamp does. If you have any thoughts here
I'd appreciate hearing but you've already answered my question.

Hi soctiestudent, thank you for the good news.

In regards to the programs you don't really want, next time you
download something, consider ticking the "I will choose what to
download" rather than the "automatic download" option. In this case,
you could've unchecked AOL, Instant Messenger and anything else you
didn't need, saving yourself the uninstalling hassles.

In regards to Winamp, it is a music player.

"Winamp is an audio player that can handle audio CDs, MP3 audio files,
and streaming audio broadcasts. It combines extensive functionality
with an intuitive interface. Winamp features a playlist editor and a
10-band graphic equalizer with user-definable presets that can
automatically load specific files."

To make it official, here is my answer to your original question:

touch.
