One of my earliest memories is escaping from my cot and sneaking out to the cinema, by hiding in my nursemaids bustle. (Boy, but was it dark in there!) This must have been some 40 years ago. I remember the movie distinctly Well, being my first visit to the cinema, its not the sort of thing that anyone would forget, would they? The movie was To Kill a Mockingbird and I empathised with the character called Jem, played by Philip Alford. To me, still in nappies (I was in nappies until my late twenties), he seemed so grown up. I did hear that Jem had become a high-powered researcher on some very hush-hush project for NSA or GCHQ. But, its possible, that this may have been an entirely different person. Assuming that there are no prohibitions on disclosure (for reasons of National Security), does anyone know what really happened to Jem? | |

Phew!! That was close but I think I've escaped the lurkers....okay, whilst the internet connection is still stable.....here goes; Top 5 suggestions for what happened to Jem (in no particular order of preference): 1. Jem became a tailor, specialising in darning socks and patching torn pants. 2. Jem became a real estate "scout", specialising in locating unused properties for sale 3. Jem and Scout went into the knife sharpening business 4. Jem and Boo opened a joke/novelty shop, specialising in Halloween favours 5. Jem, inspired by....[CENSORED FOR REASONS OF NATIONAL SECURITY] and .......[CENSORED FOR REASONS OF NATIONAL SECURITY] and also freelances as a high powered researcher. Wishing you untroubled internet connections and happy memories of darkened cinemas and many thanks for the fun question :) Kind regards jem-ga p.s. currently reading: The Optimum Nutrition Bible by Patrick Holford (whilst recovering from several glasses of champagne and some very nice 1988 vintage port) currently listening to on audiotape: Beowulf (Seamus Heaney's BBC Radio 4 broadcast) pages for people interested in "To Kill A Mockingbird": http://mockingbird.chebucto.org/ |
