We are opening a new web site and want to sell books. While we know
Amazon and B&N offer Affiliate programs with VERY small commissions,
WE are bringing the buyer to the site and making the sale...and
deserve a MUCH higher commisssion than a few percentage points. Can
you please provide me with 4 or 5 of these bookstores or book sites
that pay resellers or affiliates but the commission should be 25% or
40%...not 2% or 5% when we're bringing the buyer to the table. If you
find the percentages are much lower, please inform me what I should or
could expect to pay and who I may want to turn to.

Most of my income is from affiliate earnings from book sales. Except
for remainders and book clubs you'd be fortunate to find 15% anywhere,
let alone anything higher.

The only way to get 40% is to carry the books in stock yourself -
because that is the markup for retail stores.

Are you going to keep stocks?

Are the books new or second-hand?

Hi marcost,

Affiliate programs give you advertising revenue - don't confuse that
with the retail trade. Affiliates are not selling books, they are
advertising links to the booksellers who sell the books. The
booksellers buy, store, describe, process orders, guarantee and ship
the books. Affiliates do none of these things - they only maintain a
website of links - they are "referral services" rather than
"bookstores".

hummer

Hi Marcost,

The cost of printed books is high. There isn't that much
profit margin after you look at artwork, layout and
typesetting (less than it used to be), printing, storage,
shipping and all the levels of commissions going to
distributors, wholesalers, etc.

The only place you'll find the kinds of commissions you
want will be in the e-book community.

There, you can regularly find authors/publishers offering
commissions of 50% - if you do volume.

Most will start with 25% or so until you reach targets.

Did you want to look in that arena?
