I am trying to download a file
http://www.sourcedyn.com/distribute/Si35Setup.exe
(link available from their homepage as well) I get different MD5
checksums
at different times if I download either from my office (served by SWB
(South Western Bell)) and home (SWB DSL). I have tried to download via
IE on Windows, Mozilla Firebird on windows, different machines in the
office, wget, curl, and lynx on Linux, and lynx on FreeBSD. All of
them return different checksums, so long as I am trying from a machine
at home or office.

I tried from a machine in theplanet.com (ISP I think is Verio), and
also via a Comcast cable and also from Verizon DSL connection.
These return a checksum of 4fe5aedc36c12abe51ee001272e69abb - which
at least
is consistent. Can someone help me in figuring out where the problem
is?

The vendor hasn't yet got back to me with a correct checksum - it is
pathetic that most windows app developers don't publish MD5 checksums
on their site.

We are not going thru any web proxy - at least we are not supposed to
- unless
SWB is somehow doing it behind the scenes.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, Harikb.

I downloaded the file twice, and I got the same checksum you got.
[hobbes@thyme]$ md5 Si35Setup.exe
MD5(Si35Setup.exe)= 4fe5aedc36c12abe51ee001272e69abb
[hobbes@thyme]$ md5 Si35Setup.exe2
MD5(Si35Setup.exe2)= 4fe5aedc36c12abe51ee001272e69abb

So, something is corrupting your download. Maybe a hardware problem
(bad ram, bad hdd, bad IDE cable, etc.).
Or maybe you have an exe-infecting virus!

Hope this helps. If not, tell me why it didn't, and I'll try again.
;)
