Pennsylvania?

What specific information are you interested in? What was their business?

I do not know what type of business they owned, nor do I know their
first names. They were my biological grandparents. I have obtained
edited portions of my adoption record and the record states that the
Pierre's were business owners in Pennsylvania during the time I was
born--1965. Are there perhaps any publications or listings that I
could refer to in order to obtain more information about them?

Hi vonnie-ga,

The Pennsylvania Department of State will have records of businesses
for the state of Pennsylvania. Their website
(http://corps.state.pa.us/corps.htm) has a searchable database. From
what I can detect, you can only search by business name. When I
searched on Pierre, 4 pages of results were retrieved. The records
went back as far as the 1930’s. The problem is (and if I am right
about the database only retrieving names of businesses) if your
grandparents did not name their business using the name Pierre you are
not going to find them via the website.

You can contact the state of Pennsylvania to do a record search. The
portion of the website that outlines procedures for a record search is
http://www.dos.state.pa.us/corps/searches.htm. The phone number for
record search information is (717) 787-1057. You may want to call and
ask if they can search for you by owner’s last name and date. They
will charge you for the search.

Once you obtain a list of business leads, you may want to explore a
couple of other places for further information on the Pierres’
business. The list of business leads should help you narrow down
possible geographic areas as to the business’ location. City or county
governments may have additional information on the business such as
property records and deed transfers.

I realize this is not the list you requested but I don’t think such a
list exists. I hope you find this helpful. Good luck.

Do you know what portion of the state? What city even? I would check
with the Bureau of Licenses and Inspections. Find one in each city, if
need be. Local telephone book out there is Bell Atlantic.
www.bellatlantic.com

You can check with the City Hall, or even the Court Recorders Office,
they can check based on surname.

Good luck.

I would suggest visiting the Pennsylvania Corportation Commission. An
online search of their database shows several "Pierre"'s that had
registered around your specific time frame. Check out the online
listings here. http://corps.state.pa.us/gnsearch.php

Best of Luck
