Will the Medicaid ( not Medicare )program in the state of Arkansas pay
for a medical procedure called Addominoplasty ( Tummy tuck ). I am
morbidly obese ( a medical term ) and this procedure could help my
condition.

I contacted the ARKANSAS MEDICAID DIVISION OF MEDICAL SERVICES on your
behalf and posed the question to several Administrators there
including the Chief Administrator of Provider Reimbursement. I was
told that Arkansas Medicaid will normally pay for an Abdominoplasty
(Medicaid Procedure Code 15831) if:

The patient is an eligible recipient of Medicaid, and… 

If the procedure is deemed a medical necessity by a licensed
physician, and…

If the procedure is authorized by Medicaid in advance.

However, each Medicaid patient's situation is evaluated individually
and some cases may fit certain criteria while others do not. To
receive a definite answer based on a telephone consultation it was
highly recommended to me that I have you contact the Arkansas Medicaid
Utilization Review Specialists at (501) 682-8340 with your Medicaid
provider number to request more information about your particular
needs related to this procedure. (I would certainly have made this
call for you but only you know your provider number – which you should
NEVER post in a public forum, of course).
