Question ID: 25519
I bought this cable from SupplyNet that connects my Handspring Visor
Deluxe with a Samsung 8500. It works fine and I can even check email
and go to the web on the visor. The cable in question can be seen at:

http://www.thesupplynet.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=6108

My question is: How can synchronize all the phone numbers on my
Samsung 8500 with the visor? Is this possible?
Answer
There is no answer at this time.

Hi Mashada,

I'm not officially answering this because the answer is it's not
possible -- you would only accept the answer if it's possible, right?

I actually tried a Visor Platinum at work and connected it to my
StarTAC for web access with the same type of cable. The web did work,
but no synchronizing numbers. Unfortunately, I was told, the cable is
too primitive to synchronize data -- I don't know the exact reasons.
Now I replaced my StarTAC with an Ericsson R289LX (a good cell phone
with limited web access via AT&T).

Sincerely,
CJS

The cable you are referring to is simply a serial cable - the phone
acts as a modem when the cable is attached. The cable does not
connect to any of the phones internal features. The only phone / PDA
pair that I know can synchronise is one of the palm-based phones -
Kyocera 6030, Handspring Treo, and Samsung SPH-I300.

Those are capable of 'beaming' contacts from one palm to another. You
can also synchonize them with your PC via serial or the Internet.

Sorry about that. I wish they could synch numbers too - it's a real
bother re-keying all the information each time I change phones.
