Hello, First let me clarify my setup and then I will explain what I want (half of I want to do is already done, I just need a little help): 1) I have a Windows XP box -- computer name: singularity 2) I have a second machine running RedHat Linux 9.0 (with SAMBA, computer name: setcomputing) 3) A printer is physically connected to the Linux box (working with Linux using CUPS) 4) Both these systems are connected to the internet via a NETGEAR router and fall under the same workgroup. I want to do the following: 1) I want to be able to see a share from Windows -> Linux or vice-versa 2) More importantly: I want to be able to print from Windows to the printer (that is connected to Linux) 3) Both systems have Firewall turned on -- for now I am willing to disable them to test my setup, although ideally I would like to be have both firewalls ON and still be able to share files/printer. My current situation: 1) The Windows box can ping/tracert the Linux box (and vice-versa) 2) The Linux box can see shared folders in Windows Here's where the problem comes in: 1) The Windows box does not see the Linux computer (I did Start -> Run -> \\setcomputing): I get the following message: THE NETWORK PATH NOT FOUND Your solution should NOT use the Linux box (or the Windows box) as a PDC -- you should use simple WORKGROUP network. Secondly, I do NOT want some links to some sites that give me directions how to perform the setup -- I have already tried that. |
