What language do you have the keyboard set for? You can go to the
Control Panel and check. Thanks.

If the keyboard is set for U.S. international, that explains why if
you type quote marks they don't appear until another letter is typed.
That is done on purpose; if you type the double quote followed by the
u, you'll get a ü. I can't explain why the cursor disappears, however.
I'd suggest you try changing from United States International to a
standard keyboard layout and see what happens, then let us know.

Hi Kotemaori ~
There are any number of problems that can happen with keyboards and
Windows XP.
For instance, there are some known problems with HP and HP multi-media
keyboards, which can be fixed in a couple of ways. There are other
problems with wireless keyboards and/or USB keyboards if you have
something plugged into them.
Let's see if we can help you troubleshoot this.
It would help to know both the computer you are using
and the type, model and make of the keyboard.
Is this a PS/2 connection or a USB connection for the keyboard?
Have you tried updating the drivers for your keyboard? Either at the
Windows update site or at the keyboard manufacturer's site.
Have you tried removing the keyboard in safe mode and rebooting,
letting WinXP find and reinstall it?
If we can get more information, we can probably help you pinpoint the
problem.
Thanks,
Serenata

Hi again.
Three fast suggestions come to mind.
To check if it's system or keyboard, have you plugged another keyboard
in and boot it up to see if that keyboard works? (That's kind of a
fast 'fix' those techie types will try, to eliminate some problems
right away).
The second is to remove the keyboard in safe mode, exit and restart
the computer to see if XP recognizes and picks up the right drivers
for it.
The third is obviously to grab the new drivers for the keyboard
online. There is always a chance the drivers got corrupted installing
XP or whatever. I had to do that for a friend when I installed XP on
her computer last weekend. It just acted wierd til I reinstalled the
keyboard drivers. Using XP's bult-in drivers just didn't seem to work.
Then ... if none of those work, time to go hunting down the problem,
but those are kind of the 'easy' way to see if it's just something
like that.
Not much help, since I can't pinpoint the problem, but at least it
gives YOU something to work on.
