I need to find a obituary for Mr. Philip Niewdomski. He lived at 4821
East Linebaugh Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33617-4643. My husband and I
bought his house. We just learned that he commited a very gorey
suicide in the driveway and that there were gun shots fired at a
neighbor's house. We bought the house last October so we had been here
for almost one year before a neighbor told us this story which our
realtor did not disclose to us. The house was in probate for a long
time. We are not able to find any obituaries about Mr. Niewdomski
although we continue to receive his mail. I need you to see if you
can find any obituaries about him. His daughter and son are from the
Northeast, possibly New York or New Jersey area. They may have
printed it in papers from this area. Thanks. Eve Dobbins

I could not find an obituary for Philip Niewdomski in either the Tampa
Tribune or the St. Petersburg paper.

I did find a real estate column in the St. Petersburg paper that
reported Philip Niewdomski bought the house from Vernell Clovesko on
01/20/93 for $85,000.

I also located Mr. Niewdomski's date of death, which was 28 August
2002. (Social Security Death index at Rootsweb.com)

I then searched the online archives of the Tampa Tribune around that
date for articles mentioning either the Linebaugh address or suicides.
I didn't find anything.

Is it possible your neighbor is mis-remembering what happened?

You may wish to order a copy of Mr. Niewdomski's death certificate,
which would note whether he did, in fact, commit suicide. Cause of
death in Florida does not become a public record for 50 years;
however, the Vital Records department will release the information to
"...any person who provides a will, insurance policy or other document
demonstrating their interest in the estate of the decedent..." which
your having bought the house from his estate should qualify. Copies
cost $5. The address is: Office of Vital Statistics, Attn: Customer
Services, P.O. Box 210, Jacksonville, FL 32231-0042. The phone number
is: (904) 359-6900 extension 9000. I suggest you call regarding access
to info about the cause of death.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

There's a sentence in the Sun-Sentinel archives which also gives Mr.
Niewdomski's date of death as August 28, 2002 but, rather
surprisingly, says he was from Hollywood, Florida. The only other
information is a reference to the Joseph A. Scarano Pines Memorial
Chapel, Pembroke Pines.
