I'm trying to find the following quote: "Our schools should be a place where children have been made to work up to their individual potential, where talent is placed in high posts, and where the worth of the individual is stressed. In this sense the individual qualities of humility, charity, contentment, and all the pleasures of gratitude or admiration are to be included in their education." |

Hello. First of all, it's not an exact quote. It's a partial quote from C.S. Lewis' "Screwtape Proposes a Toast." You wrote: "Our schools should be a place where children have been made to work up to their individual potential, where talent is placed in high posts, C.S. Lewis wrote: "... children have been made to work at school, where talent is placed in high posts.." http://www.modern-mystic.net/doc/screwtape.htm You wrote: "In this sense the individual qualities of humility, charity, contentment, and all the pleasures of gratitude or admiration are to be included in their education." C.S. Lewis wrote: "...as a state of mind which, necessarily excluding humility, charity, contentment, and all the pleasures of gratitude or admiration..." http://www.modern-mystic.net/doc/screwtape.htm -------------- The phrases "humility, charity, contentment, and all the pleasures of gratitude or admiration," "children have been made to work, and "where talent is placed in high posts" are so unique that it's highly unlikely that there is any source for the quotation other than C.S. Lewis. search strategy: "pleasures of gratitude" I hope this helps. |

Thanks so much - I was sure it was C.S.Lewis but I had gone over and over my books and couldn't find it. I forgot Screwtape! The "quote" was the reversed Screwtape version - thus my inaccuracy. |
