What is the name of the museum in inner-city Tokyo that includes an
expensive outdoor Japanese-style garden. There is an admission charge
to this place, but that's all I can remember.

As you might expect, there are many dozen museums in Tokyo. There
appear to be at least three fairly well-known ones that feature
traditional outdoor gardens. Would you recognize the name of the
museum?

I am sorry I couldn't make my original posting more specific - this is
frustrating :)

I'm not sure I'd recognize the name, but I do remember that the place
I went to had a web site... so if I started with the three names, I
could probably narrow in on the exact destination.

Here are the three possibilities that I have found. I have included
contact information and links to their web sites.

If one of them is recognizable as the museum you are looking for,
please let me know by posting a "question clarification" and I will
post the information as an answer and close the question. (The museum
at the New Otani hotel does not indicate that there is an admission
fee for its garden, but I have included it because it is in central
Tokyo and is apparently known for its large garden.)

Thanks for your clarification, and I'm glad that we have found your
museum.

As we now know, the museum that interests you is the Nezo Art Museum,
which has the following contact information and web site address:

Nezu Art Museum
6-5-36 Minami Aoyama Minato-ku
Tokyo
Phone: 3400-2536
Admission: $10 (adults), $7 (students and children)
Open: Tues - Sun, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (closed on the days following

Nezu Institute of Fine Arts (English version)

Additional information:

I found the following web sites to be particularly useful in getting
information on Tokyo museums:

Metropolis Visitors Guide: Japan Today
http://metropolis.japantoday.com/worldcup/museum.asp

Tokyo Sites: Museums
http://www.pandemic.com/tokyo/sites.cfm?SType=10

Search strategy:

I zeroed in on the answer to your question by using the following
simple Google search:

tokyo museums garden
://www.google.com/search?q=tokyo+museums+garden&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&start=10&sa=N

The rest of the research work consisted of browsing promising sites
that were among the search results and trying to assure that I had
gathered the most promising possibilities for your consideration.

Thanks again for allowing me to answer your question.
