worker-ga,

Martin Luther King Jr. delivered many speeches in the course of his
career, not just one, but his most famous was the "I Have a Dream"
speech. Since you didn't specify which speech in particular you're
after, I'll treat that speech, and some of his themes common to all
his speeches, in this Answer.

Of course I’m not going to do your homework for you by writing a
complete essay, but I will provide you with background information and
links to further resources so that you may focus your efforts on
reading and assimilating relevant information, rather than searching
for it.

The following paragraph, from
[http://nmaa-ryder.si.edu/collections/exhibits/posters/mlk.html ] is
good background information:

”The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. first became a prominent voice in
the Civil Rights movement in 1955, when as a new pastor in Montgomery,
Alabama, he agreed to head the Montgomery Improvement Association. The
organization was formed to coordinate the Montgomery bus boycott,
fomented by the arrest of Rosa Parks for refusing to give up her bus
seat to a white person. King was the primary representative for the
group during the boycott, and was able to succeed by using protest
strategies that involved mobilizing the African-American community
through their churches and utilizing the nonviolent protest methods of
Indian civil rights activist Mahatma Gandhi.”

The following link is to Stanford University’s website for its Martin
Luther King, Jr. Papers Project:

On this page they list the following quote from MLK, which is
illustrative of his general teachings:

“Nonviolence is not sterile passivity, but a powerful moral force
which makes for social transformation.”

I advise you to read the information throughout this Stanford
University MLK project site—click on the various links.

Regarding the “I Have A Dream” speech, from
[http://nmaa-ryder.si.edu/collections/exhibits/posters/mlk.html ]:

“His words echoed the Bible, the Constitution, and the National
Anthem, expressing his hope that his dream of equality for all people
would someday come true.”

Here is a link to a page containing the entire text of King’s “I Have
A Dream” speech:

[http://www.wmich.edu/politics/mlk/dream.html ]:

These values are still relevant to contemporary society because,
although race relations have improved, there are still many areas of
the world where it is an issue. It will probably always be an issue in
some form or another, and King’s ideas still represent some of the
best treatments of the issue to date.

The following link is to the Seattle Times Newspaper’s page dedicated
to MLK:

[http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/mlk/ ]. This is also a great one to
read in order to evaluate King’s influence on modern society.

Also from the same site comes this next link, which takes you to a
page of excellent student essays (at the junior-high and high-school
level):

Also, here is a link to a teacher’s lesson plan on the impact of MLK’s
“I Have A Dream” speech (Also from the Stanford U. site):

].

Finally, be sure to peruse the following Google search results links
which comprise my search strategy—they will lead you to all the
information you need (and then some) to complete your assignment
successfully.
