A friend phoned me up upset that Ebay had apparently suspended his account. He then went on to explain about an email -"Pre-suspension eBay ID Verify Process" which says duie to 'recent activity' on his account he is suspended. He forwarded me the email (honestly - this is not me saying 'my friend' when I mean me, lol) and it looks seriously dodgy. I am sure Ebay say that they will never ask for personal info, but this asks for EVERYTHING. The text of the email is "Dear user, Due to recent activity, including possible unauthorized access to your account, we will suspend activity on your account, unless you pass the ID Verify process. The unauthorised access to an account constitutes a violation of our site policy as described below: * Misrepresentation of Identity (User) - Representing yourself as another eBay user or registering using the identity of another. Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you will be prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account. Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your agreed-upon obligation to pay any fees you may owe to eBay. If you received this notice and you are not the authorized account holder, please be aware that it is in violation of eBay policy to represent oneself as another eBay user. Such action may also be in violation of local, national, and/or international law. eBay is committed to assist law enforcement with any inquires related to attempts to misappropriate personal information with the intent to commit fraud or theft. Information will be provided at the request of law enforcement agencies to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. According to our site policy you will have to confirm that you are the authorized account holder by completing the ID Verify process: Regards, Safeharbor Department, eBay Inc" which looks and sounds official, then it goes on to require 'verification' details including user id and password, email id and password, mothers maiden name, credit card number and verification number He needs to know ASAP that this IS a scam as I suspect, or have proof that it really comes from Ebay. His Ebay rating is very high and he is understandably desperate to keep it Thanks wolvies |

Hi there, According to a number of websites, including one news report, the email is a fraud. At least two people in Jacksonville have received fraudulent requests for personal from someone posing as an official of the eBay Web-auction site. "I'm pretty familiar with eBay, and it looked just like it," Jennifer said. "So I filled out the form and sent it in, but I had a funny feeling about it." http://www.news4jax.com/money/2340290/detail.html This email is a fraud! Do not respond to it in any way! If you receive an email like this, forward it to eBay at spoof@ebay.com so that they can investigate. http://www.worldcollectorsnet.com/lladro/messages/800.html It looks to be from Ebay, but it is not, It is a scam to get your credit card and passwords. So if you get this email. Delete it. http://theoutlawdad.com/wwwboard/messages/312.htm These Romanians just keep hacking away. Their primary target is still Ebay. They try to harvest Ebay user accounts and passwords. http://www.empiresecurity.com/displayarticle88.html Information about spoof email is at eBay, including what to do, what not to do, and how to report it: http://pages.ebay.com/help/index_popup.html?confidence=spoof-email.html Search keywords: "Misrepresentation of Identity" ebay Best wishes, robertskelton-ga |

Thank you :) We did wonder at the spellinf 'ID Verify Process' when it should be Verification, and 'inquires' instead of 'enquiries'. I guess these kind of people will just move on if there is no reply ? |

Please see 253108 for another similar ebay scam. I've just received what appears to be a legitimate ebay message and I'm hesitating before responding. This sort of stuff is real scary. |

I have asked ebay if the message is genuine because there are a number of inconsistencies that make me wonder. |

If the email starts off with "dear user " and not your name then its a scam. |
