I want some statistics on working hours in the Australian IT industry.
I suspect that people in the industry generally work longer hours than
the average workforce and woud like some recent stats to put in a news
release.

I found an article discussing stats in 2001.

Would this be ok and accepted as an answer?

Hi! Thanks for the question.

It seems that only the 2001 figures are the ones to be found. The data
can be seen from the citation below from these two identical articles.

“IT professionals are working longer hours than most Australian
workers - many of whom are doing significant amounts of unpaid
overtime already.”

“Half of IT professionals are working 45 hours a week or more, with
researchers doing up to 53 hours a week, says Dominic Angerame, who
has just surveyed the Australian Computer Society's members.”

“The Bureau of Statistics report Labour Force Australia 2001 says that
full-time workers worked an average of nearly 41 hours a week.”

So in summary IT professionals work an average of 45 hrs. a week while
professionals in other sectors only accounted for 41 hrs. a week.
.
In the article, a breakdown of the number of hours per IT professional
is also presented. Here is a sample.

IT Sector Average Working Hours

Research and teaching 53.1
General management 49.7
IT management 48.2
