I am looking for empirical research studies showing that it is
stressful for children to 'transition' between the two homes of their
separated/divorced parents.

Could you explain more completely what you mean by "transition"? How
often are you talking about moving between the homes of the two
parents (e.g., every week, once every three month)?

Currently, the children are moving between the two homes 4 times a
week. What I mean by 'transitioning' is the actual transition between
the two parents each time the children leave one to go to the other.
I know there are studies out there (Steinman, 1981; Irving et al,
1984) but have been unable to find them in their entirety. It would
be nice to have more current studies as well as those from the 1980's.
