In the state of Alabama there are many government and non-profit
organizations (501c(3)s) whose qualifications coincide. For
instance, to qualify for food stamps a family of three, gross monthly
income must not exceed $1533 and may not exceed a net monthly income
of $1180. (D.H.R. of AL/net monthly income is after deductions
specified on the DHR food stamp web site.) To qualify for a Section 8
housing voucher a familys (no size criteria) income limit is
generally 50% of area median income (AMI), but can be up to 80% in
some cases; 75% of new vouchers must go to families with incomes
below 30% AMI. Therefore, if the AMI is $50,000 a year and your
familys income is $15,000 a year or lower ($1250/month), then you are
of the 75% that receive new Section 8 vouchers and you are also
eligible for food stamps.

What government agencies and 501c3s assist in these areas?
What are the qualifications of each?
How do the qualifications match?
The plan is to develop a system that allows a low-income individual or
family to fill out one application that applies to all of these areas
and agencies. With that one application it will be possible to answer
what areas and agencies the applicant qualifies. Therefore providing
a one-stop shop for low-income families seeking assistance.
This is
only to do with Alabama. |
