How do I create a very small file (at the most 25kb) to create a new
Internet Connection for Windows (95/98/2000/XP)?

Clarification of Question by fdelucio-ga on 17 Jun 2002 07:32 PDT
Would be a dialup connection.
The file I´m trying to create is a ".ins" file, but without the
browser installation, only the access setup (user, password, telephone
number)

would the new connection be dial-up or would it connect via a LAN such
as a cable modem or DSL?

Create an "Internet Communication Settings" file or an .INS file.
Your ISP should be able to supply you with one of these files for your
particular sign up details.

Microsoft have a tool in the Internet Explorer Administration Kit that
creates these files, or you can create them by hand using notepad.

Go to: http://www.microsoft.com//TechNet/prodtechnol/ie/downloads/ieak5.asp
to download the tool.
Go to: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q217/3/43.ASP
for details about how to use the tool.

The IEAK tool can create a script for ADSL, 56k dial up or via an office network.

Do you want a DUN maker type program? That allows you to save Dial Up Settings?

What is your goal and objective?

Once an account has been established with the ISP, you can create a
connection [either broadband or dialup] by going Start | Run | inetwiz

This is available in all versions of Windows.

This will setup dialup and also email.

Just using the Dial Up Networking Tools(located at Start -> Run ->
Accessories -> Dial Up Networking) and try to make a new Internet
connection. If you mean a "A ISP Account", maybe you need to register
with a ISP on you nearest location. Try your best!

Hi,

I don't know if they still do (they probably do), but when you
register for a free account with FreeServe, they offer one for
download. (You may have to use the right-click the file and use the
'save target as' option).

I just kept this file and edited it. It is the .ins file that was
talked about earlier. It is simply a text file you can open in
Notepad, or any other text editor, and edit by hand.

Hope that Helps,

Athon
