Gina, my cleaner, loves to make her own sausages.

She has a machine but is experiencing problems getting the skins.

Apparently retail butchers are now reluctant to supply.

Any ideas?

Hi Bryan

This is difficult; Lakeland used to sell them, but no longer.

A discussion at the 'Delia online' site produced only this:

"Your local butcher should be able to provide you with sausage skins,
if they make their own sausages in store.
Otherwise, contact a sausage maker such as www.jackscaife.co.uk to see
if they can point you in the direction of a retailer."

The latest request was quite recent and you might watch out for a
response:

As far as I can tell, there's no way of buying sausage skins from an
online source in the UK, unless you are "trade". If synthetic skins
are OK, you can order from the USA:

I suspect this is about the best advice you're going to get:

"Your best bet in the UK is to look up Butchers Sundries or Butchers
Supplies in your local Yellow Pages and give them a ring.
For Mail Order try
http://www.eldonsausage.com
They ship to the UK"
http://www.oscaruk.fsnet.co.uk/main_page_sausage_makeing.html

Hope this helps a little - and Gina can keep on making bangers.

Maybe she should start up her own sausage company; Bangers by Gina!

Once she had a company set up, she could get casings from Scobie & Junor.
http://www.scobiesdirect.com/

[Click on Casings]

"Natural Choice Casing - Sheep 20/22 2 Hanks/pot - £15.10 per Pot"
...
"The Natural Choice brand of sheep casings will produce a high quality
traditional sausage, which is stronger in filling out but tender on the
palate. This casing will produce a sausage approximately 20 to 22 mm in
width and is provided as 2 hanks with a total yield weight of 80/90 Ibs
and length of 190 yards or 173m [!] approximately."

"Free delivery on orders over £50 throughout mainland GB"

YOURS was a BAD IDEA (WORTH ZERO STARS - - - ) ... She's a great
