can you please identify the origional source of the quote, "Education
is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire." It is often
attributed to W. B. Yeats, but I am looking for a published, citeable
refrence.

Hi jeff,
I haven't located the origin of this quote by W.B. Yeats, but there
seems to be a disagreement over who the original author of that quote
is.

A very similar quote is: 
“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited”. 
Author: Plutarch, priest at the Delphic Oracle (c.45-125 AD)
