My Outlook insists on produing a form of higher case when I type and
even larger higher case if I use caps. I don't know how to turn this
off. To produce higher case I have to write in Word and copy accross.

Clarification. I usemvarious fonets, though normally Arial 
 Curently i have to type in Word and copy accross to get lower case.
it is OK if I am replying to someone's email.

 As mentioned elswhere, I cannot find an auto caps option in my
Options. This is Outlook 2000.

Have you tried Tools>Options>Auto Correct options yet?

Answer re gadfly. There is no auto-correct option in my Options . I
have Office 2000. This really is a wierd one as the caps that are
aiutomatically produced are not the same size as normal caps: they are
a bit smaller.
