I have an E-mail account on Earthlink which is being targetted by one of the MS Blaster variants, probably SWEN. This doesn't hurt ME directly, but it does prevent me from receiving E-mail as my E-mailbox fills up (10 MB) within an hour of clearing it. Is there a commercial service (I'm willing to pay around $20/month, if necessary) which will connect to Earthlink, using either POP or their (Earthlink's) web-based interface, and clear out those E-mails at least once an hour? Informing the infected users or their ISPs or MSPs would be a plus, but I'm just trying to preserve usability of my E-mail address. I'm NOT asking for spam-blocker, but I'd be willing to accept a gross solution of deleting messages if they're the same SIZE as the messages I'm getting if the sender is not on a white-list. Earthlink's customer support has been uncooperative, although one support representative suggested I change my E-mail address -- but they couldn't offer any assurance against the new E-mail address being attacked. |

Hello Arubin, Boy - I can feel your pain since I have an email account with over a thousand of those messages (virus free, but still coming through) in my inbox as well. To keep your existing account at Earthlink try one (or more) of the following: Spam Cop. http://mail.spamcop.net/individuals.php with this service, you tell Earthlink to forward the email automatically to Spam Cop using http://www.earthlink.net/blink/focus_on/email/ [scroll down to automatic forwarding] and Spam Cop does the rest. It does virus filtering in addition to the spam filters. They hold spam email for two weeks (just in case...) and have instructions for setting up your email program. The service runs about $3 per month. Email Forwarding http://www.email-forwarding.biz/ They provide a general method of forwarding email to another account (with optional spam filtering). Cost is about $4 per month and runs every 15 minutes. This is also convenient if you ever want to change providers - allowing you to bridge accounts. 0Spam http://www.0spam.com/ Advertising a "free" anti spam service. May be too good to be true, but is something to look into. Slam The Spam http://www.slamthespam.com/ Have a pretty comprehensive solution at $1 per user per month, and with forwarding should work OK. May require you to have your own email server to recieve the filtered email though. Another solution if you are willing to set up your own personal domain, is to use something like: Spam Stops Here http://www.spamstopshere.com/ This is oriented towards businesses or individuals with their own domain name (e.g., joe@myname.com). You basically set up to have mail delivered to their system and they do the filtering for you. Pricing is about $100 per year for "families", businesses are $20 per month for up to 10 email addresses, etc. A few other references http://www.elsop.com/wrc/nospam.htm An extensive list of Anti Spam resources. http://sneakemail.com/info.pl?sel=quick A way to create disposable accounts for posting messages on Internet news groups (instead of using your *real address*). http://about.mailblocks.com/press_0324_2003.html Describing a challenge / response system. May not be what you are interested for now, but is an alternative method to kill spam over the long haul. http://www.unspam.com/ A site that has a number of articles related to anti spam efforts / products. Search methods included: "anti spam service" earthlink forward email web services for spam removal "spam blocker" "spam filtering" and similar phrases. If these don't meet your needs - let me know since there are a number of other resources available for reference. --Maniac |

Spamcop does the job -- although I'll have to monitor the spam folder to see if any messages I really want end up there -- as long as Earthlink autoforwards before the account fills up. A very detailed result. |

arubin-ga, I have contacted Earthlink directly, and am waiting for a solid response from them. I'm familiar with your problem, but am not aware of any software as of now that will do what you want unless you are connected constantly to the Internet. There might be a filter to set up in the titles, etc., and I am currently investigating - hopefully I'll have a solution soon or another Google researcher will have one shortly. |

Hi, I had the same problem so I make a bot that scans my POP3 account and deletes infected mails. You can get it from http://www.geocities.com/sfandino/ You will have to run it from a Linux/Unix machine periodically (every 20 minutes or so), or have a friend of you doing it on your behalf. I hope it helps! Bye, - Salva |
