Dear leslie1932,

I am afraid that without additional information it will be absolutely
impossible to find any useful information, since Cooper is indeed not
a rare name. Maybe you could tell us the following:
- Your grandfather's full name
- Your great-grandmother's full name
- Her husband's full name
- Any other data relating to them

The second problem: Government registration of births, marriages and
deaths in Ireland began January 1, 1864. Before that date, nothing but
marriages of non-Catholics was recorded (since 1845). It is, of
course, possible that later records (such as his marriage) provide
some information on your grandfather's birth circumstances. However,
odds are bad. Should any records exist, they are most likely stored at
the archives of the Irish General Register Office. Would you like
their contact information as an answer in the likely case that nothing
else turns up?

My maternal grandfather's name was William Francis Cooper Wolfe.  He
was born in Skibbereen, Ireland in 1858.  His mother's maiden name was
Cooper.  He immigarated to the US in (about) 1873.  His family was not
Roman Catholic.  Wolfe kin still live in Skebbereen; however, I don't
know them.

Were your grandfather's parents one Mary Cooper (of Skibbereen, Cork
County) and one George Wolfe (of Stouke, Cork County)? If so, I
managed to locate their wedding date and place, their families
including quite a number of ancestors, as well as the names and some
vital dates of William C. F. Wolfe's 13 siblings. However, there seems
not to be any exact birth information on William Wolfe himself.
However, with this amount information you might be able to contact the
Irish General Register Office and provide them all data they would
need for searching their archives.
