This is one of those items that I can remember seeing and thinking,
"How Neat!".
I've seen stainless flatware with dishwasher-safe plastic handles on a
hanging caddy several times, including in K-Mart (think: Martha
Stewart Living). Of course, now that I'm trying to hunt some down for
you, they've all disappeared!
I also remembered seeing them in Pier 1, and at Pfalzgraf at the
outlet malls. A quick check by telephone here produced much the same
response ... "We *used* to carry them, but we don't have them any
more!"
This was literally making me crazy, as it doesn't seem that long ago
that I saw them (though at my age, that could encompass more than a
"few" years), so I went on a quest.

As an aside: If you live in a city with Pier 1 Imports, you may want
to give them a call, as they have carried them in several stores
(specifically Salt Lake City, San Diego, Phoenix and Tucson - stores I
visited and saw them "up close and personal"). However, they are not
listed now, either on the Pier 1 website, nor available in those
cities I mentioned at this time (I asked colleagues and family to
check for you).
