I am looking for a medical insurance coverage for my dad who is 62 and
is coming to the US from one of the CIS countires on a visitor's visa
for a
couple of months. We live in Northern Virginia, Washington, DC area
and this
is where my dad will be staying. I have started my search by visiting
VA State Corporation Commission website:
http://www.state.va.us/scc/division/boi/webpages/inspagedocs/individhealthinscoverage.doc
They provide a list of companies that offer individual
coverage, but there is no information on the company which provides
coverage to foreign visitors, without permanent status in the US.
Please provide at least 10 phone numbers or email addresses. If I get
results, I'll pay a handsome tip, up to $10.

Hi mashka,

Normally, a traveler takes out insurance in his country of origin
before he leaves home. Is this not possible in your father's
circumstances?

Regards,
hummer

Hi hummer,

Based on the information that we have received the only coverage
available for travelers to the US is accidental insurance. Source: US
embassy and the only insurance company which provides worldwide
policies in the country of my dad's origin. We are looking for a
regular medical insurane, specifically to cover health emergency
situations, not related to an accident.

Good morning, mashka. What country will he be travelling from? Thanks, hummer

Good morning, hummer.

He will be traveling from Kazakhstan. You might also need to know
that he is a citizen of Israel, residing in Kazakhstan.

Hi again mashka,

Here is the situation. Although there seems to be quite a number of
insurance companies online offering the type of service you are
looking for, most link back to just a handful of companies (similar to
the way many booksellers don't actually own books, they just link back
to Amazon). After clicking on nearly one hundred links, I've tried to
weed out the affiliates and have ended up with a core half dozen
companies. My shortened list doesn't satisfy your requirement of "at
least 10", but would you like me to post it as an anwer anyway?

Thank you,
hummer

Thank you, hummer. Please post your answer, half dozen companies is a good start.

Hi mashka,

Given that your father is travelling on a visitor's visa, I'm going to
assume he is not a US citizen. Although there seems to be quite a
number of insurance companies online offering the type of service you
are looking for, most link back to just a handful of companies -
Inbound, Patriot, Atlas and Liason.

Again, I'm sorry for the delay but I hope my list has been worth the
wait. I've included some additional links as an example of the
redundancies. Also, my research as indicated that it's important for
your father to include "Medical Evacution" in his plan, to aid in his
transport home if needed. If you have any questions or if you have
trouble with any of the links, please post a clarification request
before rating my answer.

Thank you,
hummer

Dear Mashka,

I'm so happy to hear from you - given the tip, you must have had
success with one of the companies. Good news! Thank you for the rating
and tip - I appreciate both. I hope your father has a safe journey
(and doesn't have the occassion to use the insurance) and you have a
great time together.

Sincerely,
hummer

Dear Hummer,

Many thanks for your hard work. Even though we had a change of plans
and my dad will not be coming at this point, I think that the
information that you provided would be of a great use to me in the
future. It's been a pleasure communicating with you. Don't mention
the tip - you've deserved it!

Take good care,
Mashka
