Hello Kath8701-ga,

The sixth season of Sex and the City is also the final season of this
series. There will be 20 episodes aired in two parts. The first 12
weekly episodes began June 22, 2003 and the remaining eight are
scheduled to air in January 2004. HBO has not published the exact date
as yet.
Below I am providing references where you may verify that this is the
correct answer.

From HBO News:

“The Emmy Award-winning hit HBO comedy series SEX AND THE CITY has
begun production on its sixth and final season. Season Six will be
longer than ever before - a total of 20 episodes - with 12 to debut
June 22 and the remaining eight to air in January 2004.”

Last Season of 'Sex and the City' Begins
By Frazier Moore
Associated Press

“This sixth season of HBO's dishy gal-pal comedy will be the last…
Fortunately, the season will roll out in two parts to ease viewer
withdrawal: 12 weekly episodes began June 22 at 9 p.m. EDT, with
resumption next January for eight more, including a grand send-off,
whatever that may entail.”

“This sixth season of "Sex and the City" will be its last. HBO is
rolling out the acclaimed series' final season in two parts, with 12
episodes airing this summer (Cantone will be seen in three of those),
and the final eight (of which Cantone will appear in two or three)
kicking off in January, 2004.”

From Eonline:

“Like any torrid affair, this one had to come to an end.
It's splitsville for Sex and the City and HBO after the cable net
announced that next year would be the Emmy-winning comedy's sixth, and
final, season.”

Sex and the City is saying farewell.

“After five seasons of unadulterated fun, the Emmy-winning series is
going into its sixth and final season, HBO execs announced at the
Television Critics Association winter press tour Tuesday. (..) will
tape an extended 20 episodes, instead of the standard 13.”

“HBO will break the season up into two parts, airing the first 12
episodes in the summer and the remainder in January 2004.”
