I am looking for information on active trading posts within the
Navajo, Hopi and Zuni reservations in Arizona & New Mexico. I would
like web sites links (if available) along with maps and driving
directions. If the site has online shopping available that would be
excellent.

WHAT I DON'T WANT. There are a great number of "Trading Posts" outside
the reservations in cities such as Gallup & Flagstaff. I am not
interested in these. I want only those that are operating inside the
reservations. Also I am not interested in historical trading posts
that are now functioning only as museums. I want currently running
businesses.

I have had trouble finding separating what I find online into what I
want and don't want. Most of my search results do not match my
requirements.

Hello, icemanmike-ga!

I have found a few authentic trading posts for you. Some have online
stores as well. I have also included the driving directions when
available. The listings for the Navajo trading posts are more
extensive than either the Zuni or the Hopi. Apparently, there are
several trading posts on the Zuni Pueblo but you would have to explore
the area to find them!

TWO GREY HILLS TRADING POST
============================
HCR 330, Box 70
Tohatchi, NM 87325
(505) 789-3270
http://www.twogreyhills.com/

"Two Grey Hills Trading Post, over a century old, and one of the few
remaining historic posts on the Navajo Indian Reservation, is the
primary source of authentic regional rugs and tapestries. Made of hand
spun yarn from the fleece of naturally colored local sheep in shades
of gray, brown, black and white, they are known around the world as
the finest in Navajo weaving."

"New life styles and technology have endangered this isolated old
general store, the hand spinning, and even the Churro sheep. Most
traditional trading posts have long since fallen into ruin or moved to
where they could become tourist stops. Most Navajo rugs today are
woven of commercial yarns from wool grown far from Dinetah."

"This original stone and adobe store in northwest New Mexico, still
serves the local Dine community, supplying their needs and buying
their arts and crafts. Just a few Bilagaana each week seek out this
unique site, between the Chuskas and the Chaco. It is a living museum,
but not frozen in time.

"To visit this genuine centennial trading post near the Four Corners,
travel just 15 minutes off US 666, an hour southwest of Mesa Verde,
between Shiprock and Gallup."

TOADLENA TRADING POST
=====================
http://www.toadlenatradingpost.com/ttp.asp

"We're pretty busy here at Toadlena Trading Post. That's because we
really are the economic and social center for the local Navajo
community. A typical day here may see visits from several of the 175
weavers of Two Grey Hills. Clara Sherman and her weaving daughters or
weaving granddaughters may stop by to sell us their latest rugs.
Others might come in to purchase wool, carding tools, a loom, maybe
groceries. The weavers keep credit accounts as advances in the form of
money, goods or services, which they pay with their rugs. This
arrangement allows them to create without the every day financial
pressures that would prohibit them from doing their work. In fact, it
encourages them to weave more and better."

There are fifteen trading posts in the Zuni Pueblo, according to the
following article:

"The Zuni Pueblo."
http://www.zuni.k12.nm.us/zms/Faculty/8th_Grade/520proj/demogr.html

"The Pueblo of Zuni is the largest of the nineteen pueblos in New
Mexico and is located in the western edge of the state. Zuni is
approximately thirty-five miles south of Gallup, New Mexico, located
in McKinley County, on the edge of the Colorado Plateau. The
reservation exists between 106 -112 degrees west longitude and 32 to
37 degrees north latitude."

" Although Zuni has some very talented and successful artists, the
majority of the artists make only one third of what their crafts sell
for in the stores. The fifteen trading posts in Zuni make the other
two-thirds of the wholesale price, and some even turn around and sell
jewelry supplies back to the artists. With the exception of the local
museum and the co-op, all the trading posts are non-Zuni owned."

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if I can clarify
anything further. I will certainly help if I can.

Exactly what I wanted. Some of these I knew about but most I'd not
found in my own searches. There were just too many hits whenever I did
it and I didn't have the time to narrow it down.
