Last night I was watching Myth Busters on DSC (a surpisingly fun show)
and they were driving a real car by remote control.

It looked like they used a standard hobby transmitter and reciever,
but to control the steering wheel they had a monster sized servo that
was almost as big as a brick.

I've used HITECH super high torque HS-805BB before and they are great,
but this thing was effortlessly turning the steering wheel of a 1967
Impala.

So, my question is, where can I get one of these moster servos, how
much torque do they have, and do really work with standard hobby servo
control systems (albeit with lots of extra juice)?

This may not be what you're looking for, but on an episode of Junkyard
Wars (an equally entertaining show), the two teams had to create
remote controlled combat vehicles. One team used winshield-washer
motors to turn the steering.

It's possible to build a servo out of pretty much any motor, but I'm
really looking for a ready-to-go unit (no work for me) that can plug
right into a hobby reciever/controler. thanks.

I posted a request on the Discovery channel forum and get an immedeate
answer from Jamie Hyneman...

This thing is amazing - 37 ft/lbs of torque and it plugs right into a
standard R/C controler.
