Some studies have found red wine to be more healthful than white wine,
but that's as far as it goes. I have not seen evidence that any
particular variety of wine is better than any other. Any wine can
cause a hangover if you drink too much of it (the alleged health boost
comes only from very modest consumption.) While a glass of wine may
help a person get to sleep, I very much doubt that wine enhances
energy more than any other source of carbohydrates.

I have personally researched wines for ages and I can tell you that,
if taken in excess, they have a soporific effect and will impair
energy.

The question of a hangover effect is very subjective. I find that
heavy reds (such as Merlot) are more likely to produce this effect
than a similar quantity of white.

I seriously doubt whether any wines are actually beneficial to health,
and I suspect that any such claims are propagated by the wine
industry.

O Sublime One

Thou hast failed to point out that Dr Atkins departed for another
place a few months ago.

More relevant would be to find out what Noah and Methusalah used to
drink. Now, those guys knew how to live.

Bryan...

Perhaps the poem on this page will shed some light on that:

Wine is no better for health than any other alcoholic drink. Drinking
beer, wine or distilled spirits in moderation is associated with
better health and greater longevity than is either abstaining or
abusing alcohol. The primary health benefit of alcoholic beverages
comes from the alcohol they contain. Standard drinks of beer, wine and
liquor (whiskey, gin, rum, vodka, tequila, Scotch, etc.) contain the
same anmojhnt of alcohol -- about six-tenths of one ounce. For more
