Hello there, and thanks for your question.
The Canadian government runs the Statistics Canada site at:
http://www.statcan.ca/start.html
Two of the datasets maintained by Statistics Canada are:
--v2461182 - 282-0002 Labour force survey estimates (LFS), by sex and
detailed age group; Canada; Unemployment (Persons x 1,000); Both
sexes; 15 years and over (Annual, 1976-2002)
--v2461224 - 282-0002 Labour force survey estimates (LFS), by sex and
detailed age group; Canada; Unemployment rate; Both sexes; 15 years
and over (Annual, 1976-2002)
According to these two datasets, unemployment statistics since 1990
for the whole of Canada are as follows:
......
Unemployment Statistics

1990...... 1,156.9...... 8.1
1991...... 1,479.5...... 10.3
1992...... 1,602.3...... 11.2
1993...... 1,647.0...... 11.4
1994...... 1,514.9...... 10.4
1995...... 1,393.1...... 9.4

2001...... 1,169.6...... 7.2
2002...... 1,277.6...... 7.7
That is, the latest annual figures for 2002 indicate that 1,277,600
people over the age of 15 are unemployed, for an overall unemployment
rate of 7.7%.

At this Statistics Canada page:
http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb/labor07a.htm
you can see the current (2002) population/employment/unemployment data
in additional detail, broken out by province, gender, and several
other factors.

And at this Statistics Canada page:
http://cansim2.statcan.ca/cgi-win/CNSMCGI.exe?Lang=E&CONTEXT=Canadian%20Statistics%20-%20Labour%20force,%20employed%20and%20unemployed&Array_Pick=1&Detail=1&TblDetail=1&RootDir=CII\&ResultTemplate=CII\CII___&ArrayId=2820002
you can build your own data query and get considerably more detail
about unemployment data, should you desire...Statistics Canada imposes
a small charge for making the data available (I ran a query at the
site in order to generate the information in the tables, above).
I hope this information meets your needs. If anything requires
additional elaboration, just let me know by posting a Request for
Clarification, and I'll be happy to assist you further.
