What are the 3 most eaten food in the united states, france, china and
Japan. (top three for each country) And also what are the average
health statistics of the average person in each of these countries.

Clarification of Question by taitertot-ga on 05 Oct 2003 15:43 PDT
i mostly wish to know about what the 3 most eaten foods are, although
it would be nice to have some health statistics too, they are not
necessary.

What do you mean by "most eaten"? As one example, suppose I serve a
dish made up of rice with chicken and teriyaki sauce. Does that count
as eating chicken teriyaki, or does it count as eating rice, chicken
and sauce? Does eating Wheat Chex count as eating wheat, or does it
count as eating breakfast cereal? Also, are you talking about most
eaten in terms of number of times it is eaten, or the most eaten by
quantity? They may not be the same. Thanks.

Clarification of Question by taitertot-ga on 06 Oct 2003 17:32 PDT
even just the top 3 most eaten foods in just the united states would be fine.

Clarification of Question by taitertot-ga on 06 Oct 2003 17:34 PDT
the whole dish, as in the meal as a whole. That would be the rice, the
sauce and whatever else is in it. That would not include a drink or
salad that was eaten with it. I'm sorry if the question was unclear.

I believe i mean as in quantity.

Hello taitertot-ga!

What a great nickname considering the nature of this question! And
while I don’t want to spoil the presentation of the results of your
question, I will say this—the U.S. does seem to be made up of a “meat
and potatoes” people.

I found all kinds of interesting tidbits while researching your
question . . . and I must admit, I got hungry, too! What a fun
question to research! Thank you for asking such an interesting
question.

Through your clarifications, you narrowed the scope of your original
question. I’ve found the information you’ve asked for through your
clarifications and I’ve also gathered as much information as I could
to supplement that, thereby answering more of your original question.
I hope this information is helpful to you, and again, thank you for an
interesting question!

An interesting and fun to read article can be found here:
http://www.jsonline.com/food/dec99/topten29122899.asp
This article presents the results of research to find “the 10 dishes
most representative of American cooking during the 1900s.”

I’ll type the list here, but I encourage you to read the article for
all of the fun trivia and facts that go along with each food as well
as some of the background on the research that went into the list. As
the article mentioned, most of these foods are considered “social

“American Food.”

The research that I think you’ll find the most interesting, based on
your original question, is an article that I came across several
months ago and book marked, because I thought it was so fascinating
and also a great resource to reference healthy eating habits. It is
called “Diets of the World” and is a special report on the WebMD site.
It is an interactive article that highlights the foods and eating
habits of many countries, by offering specific information on Chinese,
French, Japanese, Mediterranean, Latin, and American diets.

It piques your curiosity and seduces you by asking, “Why do people in
Asia get a fraction of the cancer, heart disease, and diabetes that
Americans get? Why are the French, with their rich sauces, so slim?”
The introduction goes on to invite you to read by stating, “The secret
may simmer in their food. For intense flavor and a healthier body,
come visit these diets of the world.”

Here’s a little sneak peek for you of what the interactive article
offers you:

“Chinese Diet:
Forget the dishes from the take-out place around the corner. True
Chinese food uses tiny amounts of meat to spice up vegetables. Learn
to turn your stir-fry into an ally against cancer.

French Diet:
Along with perfume and high fashion, the French seem to have cornered
the market on slimness. Only 8% are obese. How do they do it?
Sometimes the trick is in the timing.

Japanese Diet:
Of all peoples, the Japanese live the longest in full health. Is it
their seafood? Their abundance of soy? Perhaps. But experts say credit
is also due to one inspiring ingredient.

Mediterranean Diet:
The people of southern Greece, Italy, the Middle East, and Northern
Africa are no strangers to fat. In fact, they pour it on. So why is
heart disease so rare? The secret is green.

Latin Diet:
The latest trend in Latin food - Nuevo Latino cuisine - is actually a
return to the old ways. Forget those heavy refried beans. Instead,
learn some sexy and healthful ideas in dining from our friends south
of the border.

The New American Diet:
Famed Harvard nutritionist Walter Willett, MD, took the best
traditions from around the world to create this new American diet.
Lucky you. Just follow these simple strategies to dine with
international flair and boost your health.”

Each of these interesting mini-introductions is followed by a
Fork-Plate-Knife-and-Napkin “Click Here” icon that takes you into a
more elaborate presentation of these world diets and eating habits and
their corresponding health benefits.
