Hello there;
 I would like to know roughly how many total spieces of animals there
are. I am interested in only living spieces.. not extinct ones. To
re-phrase, I would like to know how many total species there are in:
mammals, reptiles, amphibians, etc...
I don't need an exact number-- just a good reasonably scientific
guess.
Please feel free to ask any clarifying questions.

Hi Puravida77
There are over a million species of animals which have been named, and
over 10 million still to be recorded - insects represent over 80% of
all living animals on the planet.
===========================================================
"Over the past 250 years, only a modest 1.2 million species have been
described and named. With an estimated 10 million animal species still
to be recorded, there are fears that many could disappear before they
are properly catalogued."

===========================================================
"Insects, (Latin insectum, literally "segmented animal"), with over
1.2 million known species, represent over 80 % of all living animals
on earth. Every year numerous new species are found and categorised.
But the last time a new insect order was discovered was in 1915, 87
years ago."

===========================================================
"There are more than a million animal species. There are 6,000 species
of reptiles, 73,000 kinds of spiders, and 3,000 types of lice. For
each person there is about 200 million insects. The 4,600 kinds of
mammals represent a mere 0,3% of animals and the 9000 kinds of birds
only 0,7%. The most numerous bird specie is the red-billed quelea of
southern Africa. There are an estimated 100 trillion of them."

===========================================================
"There could be as many as 10 million or even 100 million animal
species. Biologists have described about a million so far - each new
animal requires a lot of time and expertise."

I hope this answers your question.
If anything is unclear, please ask for clarification.
