Need suggestions on best procedure for producing sharpest images for
online help. Need to be able to resize screen shots for use in HTML
Help application. using Snagit Screen capture utility to capture
screens at 600 dpi; saving as .gif. Using Resize tool from Robohelp to
proportionally resize. Not very satisfactory. Using 1152x864
resolution and true color 32 bit. Would appreciate any tips on
improving or sharpening these images when resized

Hello, buzzscan:
You need to use a program that use some kind of resizing algorithm
with blending, for example Adobe Photoshop+ImageReady, try to open a
captured screen in Adobe Photoshop and resize it to your preferred
size. After that, export the image to Adobe ImageReady and save it as
.gif, it's the best optimization available. Tell me if this is the
right way so I can elaborate more on this.

Also, if you can post a source image somewhere on the net, I will try
to process it for you.

Regards.

Good Day buzzscan-ga,

I found that resizing GIFs doesn't work too well. Reason: Not enough
colours to pick a new palette. Save the files as JPG, resize, and then
convert to GIF. Let me know if this is an option, and if I should post
an official answer. :)

Compupic from http://www.photodex.com has really awesome resizing and
cropping and image conversion tools. I highly recommend it.

There are 3 different modes for resizing pictures, and how it blends
them that you can choose from, if you want to get picky, though the
default is excelent. For some examples of some screen-shots that were
shunk down from high res to small size, visit:

IrfanView32 is a free image viewer that, amongst other things, does
very nice resizing and supports a tremendous number of formats; you
might want to try it.
