Hi,

The answer to your question is pretty elusive. The popular works by
this composer don't include the piece you are looking for.

I did find a contact:
DR. ERNEST J. KRAMER
Office Phone: 660-562-1319
E-mail address: kramer@mail.nwmissouri.edu

who has just finished a book on Von Suppe - The Life and Work of Franz
von Suppe, Creator of German Operetta, Edwin Mellen Press, New York,
NY (accepted for publication in 2002 or 2003).

He may be familiar with the lesser known works by this composer. His
vita is posted at:
http://www.nwmissouri.edu/~kramer/resume.htm

Collections of Von Suppe recordings can be found at:
http://web02.hnh.com/composer/btm.asp?fullname=Suppe,%20Franz%20von
http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/Drilldown?a=b&name_id=11762&name_role=1

Die Beichte translates to the confession or Confessor, so I searched
under that on the off chance that it would be somewhere with the
English translation. It may be contained one of his operettas or it
may not have been recorded. In any case, my guess would be that Dr.
Kramer would be familiar with the work.

Good luck!

Hi,

I was suggesting that you email Dr. Kramer. Many of von Suppe's works
contain works that may not be searchable by title because they are
either songs within his operettas or known by another name. Since Dr.
Kramer just finished researching the works of this composer, he would
be the best source of information.

I did find one that I hesitated to include
Strienz,Wilhelm Vol.II
CD / VÖ-Datum: 29.1.96
Unterhaltungsmusik

at:
http://www.primusmedia.de/primusdb/index.html?frame=1&k=home&sk=artikel&iampartner=supdm&hnum=5829464

It has a rendition of a song by the same title, but I can't tell if it
is the one written by v. Suppe.

Hope this helps,

I just tried the other link and it brings you to the main page - try
the link above or just enter
Strienz,Wilhelm Vol.II
in the search box. I'm reasonably certain that this is the correct
song. One of Wilhelm Strienz's other albums contains a selection from
Boccaccio. I did find some pretty strange entries for Die Beichte -
comedy routines and other oddities - on other sites but this seems
likely to be your v. Suppe selection.

Enjoy,

Margaret

Hello There!

"Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo Cavaliere Suppe Dememlli, better know as Franz von Suppe, was born in the
Dalmatian port city of Spalato (now, Split, Croatia). Suppe's father, an Austrian civil servant working in Dalmatia,
opposed the idea of his son pursuing a musical career. Nevertheless, at the age of 13, Suppe composed a full-scale
Catholic Mass entitled Missa dalmatia. The young Suppe studied law at the University of Padua, but continued to
secretly pursue his musical interests...oday, Suppe is remembered for a handful of overtures, including that for Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna.
Their melodic invention, colorful orchestration and irrepressible energy and charm have assured Suppe's overtures an
occasional appearance in concert programs, even if sadly, his other works have lapsed into obscurity."

I did a bit of further looking and found these recordings and comments regarding Suppe's work.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000001MQN/heartsease03/102-1111750-2327303

There is a notation I found that states that the Kosice Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra has recorded many of his pieces, that might be a clue to help
you find the exact piece you want. Possibly you could contact this Orchestra and inquire if they have recorded The Confession.

Hope this helps further.

Hello Again!

I also might suggest that if The Confession is part of a whole work, you might elaborate and give the name of the entire work.

Further searching found this web site which states they have every recording in print of each composer.

This is a list of recordings containing works by Franz von Suppé
http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/albumList.jsp;jsessionid=A383B774278890E482F0D001D0511301?page_size=100&name_id1=11762&name_role1=
1&bcorder=1

This is a list of specific works of Suppe
http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/Drilldown?a=b&name_id=11762&name_role=1

I did not find The Confession listed, but again, if it is part of an Opera or another whole work, you mind find it here.

I might also sugges you try contacting them and asking if they can help. They offer that service.

Again, I hope this helps.

Hi Bernward,

By searching on the net, I have found that maybe the spelling for "Die
Beichte" was wrong... What I found was "Die Leichte Kavallerie: Overture" by
Franz von Suppe. You can buy a CD featuring this song on the site of CD
Universe. You can choose the CD you want between 43 albums that all contain
the song you are looking for:

http://www.cduniverse.com/classical.asp?sf=Die+leichte+Kavallerie%
3A+Overture&cart=120524090&style=classical&ctype=work&exact=y

I'm glad to have helped you!

Can please you verify that Die Beichte is by Suppé ?
Searching german and other international sites did not give any
results on that combination.

Sorry
